Innovative quick-release fasteners for every challenge

With some items of clothing, it is essential that they fit snugly against the body. Just think of ski boots and a firefighter’s helmet. In other situations, it is desirable to be able to put on or take off a shoe or helmet quickly. A high-quality quick-release fastener ensures both.
At Gudo, we specialise in the manufacture of fasteners. That is why our extensive range includes various types of quick-release fasteners. In this article, you will learn about the benefits of quick-release fasteners and the areas in which they can be used. We will also tell you about some of the models available from us.
What types of quick-release fasteners are there?
A quick-release fastener is a fastener that can be closed in a matter of seconds. It can be opened again just as quickly. Despite being easy to use, the fastener is also designed to provide a secure hold.
The most popular types of quick-release fasteners include:
- screw cap
- ratchet fastener
- clamp
Each type has its own advantages, which is why it is worth taking a closer look.
The twist-off cap

The screw cap It is one of the most commonly used fastenings in certain areas. It features a twist knob that is used to close, open and adjust it.
Using a twist lock is very simple. If you turn the knob to the right, the rope or strap connected to the knob tightens. If you turn the knob to the left, the rope or strap loosens again.
To make opening easier, some models feature a quick-release mechanism. Thanks to this, all you need to do is press the centre of the button to release the tension on the cord or strap immediately.
High-quality twist fasteners offer extremely high tension. This, combined with their compact size, makes them very popular in many areas. Added to this is their ease of use, which allows them to be operated with just one hand. Even children can use a twist fastener with ease. This is why this type of quick-release fastener is often used on children’s shoes.
At Gudo, you will find a range of screw-top closures that vary in size and design. The Swock M Power is characterised, for example, by its enormous torque. It is fitted with a planetary gearbox that provides a gear ratio of 5:1. This makes it particularly suitable for applications where a great deal of power is required.
If you need to fit a quick-release fastener into a small space, then the Swock M mini a good choice. It has a particularly slim design, which opens up a range of possible uses.

The ratchet fastener

Another type of quick-release fastener is the ratchet fastener. It is operated by a lever that is swung to tighten and loosen it. The ratchet fastener is used with a Timing belt. Moving the lever allows the belt to be moved forwards or backwards by one tooth at a time.
The ratchet buckles available from Gudo are suitable for straps and bands with a width of 18 or 22 millimetres. A smaller model, for example, is the Mini A. Its lever is longer than that of the otherwise identical Mini N, making it easier to handle.
Both models feature a quick-release mechanism that is activated when the lever is pressed all the way down.
A new development from Gudo are the ratchet buckles Easy S and Easy L. Each of these products is available in a version with a straight or curved base plate. The Easy S accommodates 18-millimetre-wide straps and bands, whilst the Easy L can accommodate 22-millimetre-wide ones.
The clamp fastener

The category of quick-release fasteners also includes Tension fasteners. These are also fitted with a lever that can be used to secure a strap, belt or rope. To prevent the fastening from opening accidentally, it is equipped with safety mechanisms. The RVH by Gudo For example, it has a catch that has to be pushed upwards before it can be opened.
Other models such as the Cross are fitted with a snap-lock mechanism that prevents them from opening accidentally.
Snap fasteners were originally developed for use on ski boots. They are now also used in other areas, where they serve their purpose well.
In which areas can a quick-release fastener be used?
Quick-release fasteners are frequently used in the clothing industry, for example. They are particularly indispensable in the manufacture of safety clothing. This is because when putting on and taking off helmets, shoes and Gas masks Smooth operation is often key. Putting it on and taking it off must therefore be a quick process.
Quick-release fastenings are also a good idea for everyday clothing. For example, children and older people benefit from having quick-release fastenings on their shoes or bicycle helmets.
Furthermore, orthopaedics is a field in which this type of fastening is commonly found. Orthoses and corsets need to be easy to put on and take off to make life easier for users or carers. A quick-release fastener ensures this.
Another area where quick-release fasteners are used is the automotive industry. There, for example, they are the ideal choice for bicycle frame mounts. A ratchet or clamping fastener is ideal for ensuring that bicycles can be removed quickly and easily.
What makes a Gudo quick-release fastener stand out?
Gudo’s quick-release fasteners stand out, not least because of their well-thought-out design. We spend a great deal of time developing fasteners to ensure they function smoothly. For example, we rely on prototyping, during which we produce fully functional individual units. These are then extensively tested to identify any faults and identify opportunities for improvement.
Based on these findings, a new prototype is produced and tested again. Only once the fastener meets our requirements do we commence mass production.
Our closures are manufactured at our factory in Lupfig, where we use state-of-the-art production processes and tried-and-tested materials. We are also constantly improving our closures and developing new models so that we can offer the right products for every application.
