Ratchet fasteners

Fastening buckles are used in a wide range of applications. In everyday life, they are most commonly found on clothing and accessories. At Gudo, we specialise in the design and manufacture of such buckles. That is why we offer a variety of models suitable for use with different products.

In this article, we provide you with comprehensive information about fastening buckles. You will find out what they are used for and what the differences are between the various models.

What are fastening buckles and what are they used for?

Buckle fastenings are used to connect two elements. For example, they are used to fasten helmets. When the parts of the strap are connected via the buckle, a secure fit is ensured.

A classic application for fastening buckles is car seat belts. Shoes and bags can also be fastened with buckles. Last but not least, belts are typically fitted with buckles.

In most cases, it is not enough for buckles simply to join two parts together; they often need to do so securely as well. This is particularly essential for items where a firm hold is crucial.

Police officers and firefighters, for example, rely on their Helmets fit securely on the head. Skiers need to be able to rely on their boots not coming loose whilst skiing. And Seat belts in cars They will only prevent injuries if they do not open even during sudden stops.

What makes fastening buckles special?

One of the key features of fastening buckles is their versatility. As mentioned earlier, they can be used with a variety of garments and accessories. Whether on shoes, helmets, bags or belts, these buckles prove to be practical in a wide range of applications.

Another distinctive feature of buckle fastenings is how easy they are to use. Closing them requires no effort at all. And opening them is just as straightforward. Depending on the type of buckle, it can even be opened with one hand. This is particularly helpful in certain situations – for example, when a ski boot needs to be opened quickly in an emergency.

The ease of use means that the buckles are also well suited for children. Quite a few children find it difficult to use shoelaces. As Velcro and similar solutions usually do not provide sufficient hold, other options are needed. Thanks to buckle fastenings, it is no problem for children to fasten, adjust and unfasten their shoes themselves.

It is their flexibility that makes buckle fastenings so special. With the help of the buckles, you can adjust the length of the strap to suit your needs. This means you can continue to use a strap with buckles even after a physical change, such as gaining or losing weight. Similarly, helmets or shoes can be used by several people of similar build.

How do fastening buckles differ?

Clips

There are various types of fastening buckles. These are the most commonly used models:

We’ll introduce them to you briefly below.

The clip

Clips are used to adjust the length of straps and dental bands. Once the clip is secured, it ensures a firm hold. This makes clips ideal for use on helmets and shoes. Clips can even be used in medical products such as orthoses.

We stock clips in a range of sizes and designs. For example, we offer models with spring-loaded or plastic-toothed mechanisms. We also stock clips that can be released simply by pressing them.

The snap fastener

The snap fastener is very popular. It consists of two parts that are pressed together to close the fastener. To open most models, pressure must be applied to the wings. This type of fastener is often made of plastic. They are found on bags and rucksacks, but also on dog collars. Car seat belts also feature snap fasteners.

The ratchet fastener

Also Ratchet fasteners are extremely popular. The ratchet opening holds the strap in place. The integrated ratchet lever is then used to secure the strap in the desired position.

Inside the fastener there is a toothed strap and a pawl. These ensure that the strap can only be moved in one direction. This prevents it from slipping out of the ratchet opening.

To open the ratchet fastener, a lever must be operated. This releases the pawl and the strap is immediately released. Shoes, helmets and bike racks can be fitted with a ratchet fastener.

The clamp buckle PREVIOUS IMAGES

The clamp buckle offers an alternative solution to hip belts. The end of the belt is threaded through the buckle and clamped in place. One advantage of this type of buckle is that there is no need for holes in the belt. This makes adjustment even more flexible than with a pin buckle.

Clip buckles are also commonly found on rucksacks. Lashing straps are another important product that makes use of this technology.

From the Development We handle the entire process right through to the manufacture of your bespoke products. This means you receive fasteners, buckles and other items that are tailored precisely to your specific requirements.

The creation of bespoke products begins with a comprehensive consultation. During this process, we establish exactly what your requirements are. Drawing on our expertise and experience, we can enhance your ideas with helpful suggestions. Both the design and the functionality are put through their paces right from the start.

We also keep a close eye on economic factors such as the costs of mass production. We examine and assess the conditions under which particular investments are worthwhile.

Another part of the planning phase is what is known as prototyping. This involves producing initial models of the planned product. These prototypes are fully functional and usable, which means they can be tested extensively. This process reveals whether any potential problems might arise. This enables us to produce improved prototypes, which in turn undergo further testing.

Thanks to this approach, there is no risk of products being manufactured in large quantities. Only once the final prototype matches your vision of the product exactly can mass production begin.

For the Production we use innovative processes and state-of-the-art machinery. At our factory in Lupfig, we manufacture products of the highest quality in any quantity, using techniques such as plastic injection moulding, stamping and 3D printing.

Should there also be a Assembly If this is necessary, we can take care of it for you as well. Our assembly lines are set up flexibly and ensure efficient and timely processing.
