A range of closure systems for various industries

At Gudo, we see ourselves as specialists in a wide variety of fastening systems. We offer our customers a broad range of fastening solutions for a wide variety of applications. Our twist, ratchet and tension fasteners are used by various manufacturers of sports equipment. There, for example, they reliably fasten helmets and shoes.
However, manufacturers from a wide range of other sectors also rely on Gudo’s high-quality and durable fastening systems. In the following article, we’ll introduce you to our solutions and show you the sectors in which they are used.
What locking systems does Gudo offer?

We manufacture a wide range of fastening systems and mechanisms used across various industries. We generally offer fasteners in the following types:
Twist fasteners are our most complex product. A wire or plastic cord is wound around a spindle concealed within a twist knob. This allows specialised sports shoes, for example, to be laced securely with minimal effort. Twist fasteners can also be used for fine-tuning bicycle helmets or for fastening specialist gloves.
Ratchet fasteners are among our most versatile fastening mechanisms. The principle involves feeding a toothed belt through a ratchet housing fitted with a pawl. The simplicity of the mechanism makes ratchet fasteners cost-effective and extremely versatile. Whether for sports equipment or orthopaedic products: the fasteners can be easily integrated into any application.
Our buckle fasteners were originally developed for fastening ski boots. They are therefore extremely durable and perform well even in adverse weather conditions. This has made the fasteners very popular, particularly in the orthopaedic sector. In particular, removable prostheses and orthoses are very frequently secured using our tension fasteners.
Thanks to their compact size, our clip fasteners are ideal for a wide range of applications. Our clips are the perfect choice for many manufacturers of shoes and helmets. They are versatile and can therefore be integrated into a wide variety of products, even in their standard versions.
Which industries rely on Gudo locking systems?
Our closure solutions are used by leading companies across a range of sectors. Companies in the following sectors, in particular, benefit from the wide range of options offered by our closures:
- Sports equipment
- Shoes
- Orthopaedics
- Workwear
- Industry
Fastenings for sports equipment manufacturers
Our fastenings have been very popular for many years, particularly in the sports equipment sector. Sportswear, shoes and helmets typically have to meet two key requirements.
Firstly, there is the issue of safety. Whether you’re skiing, cycling or running outdoors, your gear mustn’t come loose, even in extreme situations. Secondly, sports equipment should be as light as possible. Anyone aiming to set new speed records or climb new peaks in the mountains doesn’t want to be held back by heavy equipment.
Gudo’s closure systems meet both these requirements exceptionally well. Our plastic closures, which are primarily manufactured using injection moulding, are durable and weigh just a few grams. In the sports sector, our twist-off and screw-top closures are the most commonly used.
Twist locks are used, for example, to secure specialised footwear. Ski boots, trail running shoes and climbing shoes, for instance, are fitted with twist locks. They are the first choice wherever it is essential that shoelaces do not come undone at the wrong moment. The system’s simple one-handed operation is also an advantage.
However, twist locks are also used, for example, to tighten cycling, riding and other helmets securely. Ratchet fasteners with toothed straps are also frequently used for this purpose. In particular, the helmet’s chin strap is often tightened and fastened using these.
Our buckle fasteners are also used as components in sports equipment. As mentioned earlier, we originally developed them as a fastening solution for ski boots. Our new product, currently in development, Ski boot buckle is a testament to our many years of experience as a supplier to the industry.
Orthopaedic and medical products

Many of the fasteners that we originally developed for sports equipment manufacturers are also popular with manufacturers of orthopaedic products. Many of the features that make our fasteners attractive for sports use are also important for medical products.
Our clasp fasteners are frequently used in prostheses and orthoses that patients can put on and take off themselves. The precise, infinitely variable adjustment of the fastener makes it possible to tailor such aids very precisely to the patient’s requirements. Furthermore, the fasteners are easy to use and can be operated with one hand. This is often particularly important for prosthesis wearers.
Wheelchair users also benefit from our fastening systems in many cases. Our ratchet fasteners, in particular, are frequently used to secure safety belts to wheelchairs. Mounts and other accessories are also attached using these fasteners. Additional accessories can also be attached to walking aids using these fasteners.
Just like manufacturers in the sports industry, producers of orthopaedic shoes often opt for twist fastenings. The particularly precise adjustment options offered by these fastenings allow wearers of such specialist shoes to tailor them even more closely to their own needs. Furthermore, people with disabilities in particular benefit from the ability to fasten and unfasten the shoes with one hand.
Workwear

Just as in sport, ease of use and a high level of safety are key priorities when it comes to workwear. Whether it’s protective vests, safety footwear or helmets, reliable fastenings are essential wherever clothing and accessories are subjected to heavy wear and tear.
Much like sports helmets, safety helmets can also be adjusted using twist locks to fit the shape of the wearer’s head. The simple operation of the mechanism makes it possible to position the dial at the back of the helmet. There, it can be operated with one hand whilst the helmet is already being worn.
Just as with sports shoes, the use of twist locks can also be beneficial for safety footwear. This mechanism ensures that the shoes are fastened particularly securely. Alternatively, tension or ratchet fastenings can also be used.
shoe manufacturer

It is not only specialist footwear but also conventional casual shoes that can be fitted with special fastening systems. This is particularly true of shoes inspired by sports footwear Sneakers Twist-and-lock fastenings are an attractive design option as an alternative to conventional shoelaces. Furthermore, these fastening systems often make everyday life much easier for people with motor or other physical impairments.
Industry
Durable closure systems can also be put to good use in many other areas. The industrial sector is a case in point.
For example, twist locks are used to adjust harness systems. In assembly processes, snap and clip fasteners can be used to temporarily secure parts. This enables faster and easier assembly. Containers and packaging are also frequently secured using tension and ratchet fasteners.
